Our Story

There’s always something else to learn! That’s what John Kotara and his brother Raymond told themselves when they founded J&R Tile, Inc. over 30 years ago. John was, and remains, convinced that a tile installation company should know how to handle all types of tile, marble, granite, and pavers. In addition, John believes all installers should work to continuously develop new and creative ideas to solve problems.

With John's philosophy setting the course, Erin Albrecht has taken the lead on continuing J&R's focus on educating staff and the industry. J&R holds weekly product demonstrations and has ongoing education and certification programs. A proud member of the National Tile Contractor's Association, J&R is also recognized as a 5 Star Contractor and an ARDEX choice contractor.

After spending eight years working in the family business, Erin officially became the second-generation owner of J&R in 2021. Erin and her partner Triniti Vigil — Vice President of Operations and Advanced Certified Tile Installer — continue J&R’s history of quality installation while adding their own passion for innovation. J&R has become a leader in large format porcelain tile and continues to be on the leading edge of the latest installation methods and materials.

Erin is the owner of J&R Tile.

She is heavily involved the architectural and development communities and is known for her work partnering directly with clients. Previous engagements include: Frost Bank, Southwest Research Institute, Trinity University, Graystreet Partners, and more. Erin brings 10+ years of education and management experience to J&R Tile, using those skills to lead the continuous education and certification programs at the heart of J&R’s culture. Passionate about promoting the trades, Erin has partnered with the Texas Workforce Commission and Austin Community College to create one of only two tile-based Department of Labor approved apprenticeships in the United States. Erin quickly established herself as a thought leader in the Tile Industry and has design builds throughout the city. In addition to being a Pro Wedi Installer, her credentials include:

2022 NTCA Craftsperson of the year, Triniti is one of the most credentialed and awarded craftsmen in the industry. He holds many certifications and accreditations, so who better to run the show? He partners with our estimating department to ensure installations are to Tile Council of North America Standards. He also partners with Erin to educate architects on correct specifications with hands-on demonstrations. He is a Regional Evaluator for the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation, helping more installers become certified in Texas! Triniti is an avid Rodeo Man, trail rider, and Team Roper. He and his lovely wife Blanca have horses and trail ride together in their leisure time.

Ali oversees all Commercial Estimating, and invitations to bid at J&R Tile. She is also the sister of the owner, Erin!

Ali has her Bachelor’s Degree from A&M University, and has her Juris Doctorate from St. Mary’s University here in San Antonio, Texas. Ali also plays a huge role in reviewing important contract language.

She is currently studying for her Fundamental of Thin Bed Knowledge Certification from the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation.

Christine with Erin oversees the entire J&R organization while also handling finance and administration.

Christine has worked as the Corporate Controller with Stanley Structures and Southern Steel before joining the J&R family over 20 years ago. Her vast experience, business savvy, and knowledge has brought the stability financially for J&R to invest in education and training to establish J&R as an industry leader and one of the most qualified contractors in the country. Chris is also a SPURS fanatic! Go Spurs Go!

Apprentice

Come get paid to learn a trade! J&R tile is one of only 2 companies in the United States with a non-union, certified apprenticeship program.

  • No previous experience required. We want to teach you!

  • Construction or art ability is a bonus

  • Starting at $15-$20/hr depending on experience

  • All genders and ages welcome. You do not need to be able to lift 100 lbs.

  • Must be able to pass a drug test and have drivers license

  • We are looking for people who are highly motivated to start career and grow with a company

  • Please only apply if you are serious about wanting to work with us. A large number of apprentice applicants no-show interviews or do not return phone calls.

Installer

We are always looking for skilled craftsmen to join our nationally recognized team of installers and Certified Tile Installers.

  • 5+ years of previous tile experience required

  • We are looking for people who are highly motivated to grow with the company.

  • Pass apprenticeship testing modules at interview

  • Strong knowledge of TCNA and ANSI standards

  • We want all installers working towards becoming a Certified Tile Installer. If you are not already certified, we will work with you and pay for your test when you are ready.

  • You must enjoy being on a team and teaching. Installers are expected to coach their apprentice, work well with customers, problem solve, and be leaders on and off the job site.
